How come those who think the universe required a creator...?

Scoff at the idea of "something coming from nothing" and call it ridiculous, but think it's perfectly possible and reasonable that an all powerful, magical god could just somehow always exist? How is the idea of a god always existing any less ridiculous than the universe coming from nothing?
