If you have artist on both sides of the family do you inherit ARTIST GENES?

We have painters on my dads side, and I discovered I'm really good at painting, it's my last year at high school and I created and incredible self portrait and a sunflower painting, they are so good some of my classmates say they are ugly. My moms side is the fashion designer genes, she says her aunt use to make newspaper patterns to then make real fabric clothes, and I have made my master piece, it is so good that the jealous fashion teacher calls it a "costume". UI told her it's a high fashion dress, and she scoffed at me and said "to create high fashion, you have to be a famous fashion designer", I was like F*** B****!
