How will I find out if the spider wants to lay eggs in my home?

I have a spider on my window, inside the living room. I don't mind the spider, I actually like to watch it make the spiderweb etc. But - I am afraid that it might be female and one day I come and have one hundred of them - which is definitely not what I want. Is there such a danger, or can I leave the spider there? Thanks!
